Costa Rica beats Haiti 2:0 for sixth straight victory in World Cup qualifying
10/15/2008 - SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Junior Diaz and Victor Nunez both scored for Costa Rica and the Ticos won their fifth straight in the second round of World Cup qualifying, 2:0 over Haiti on Wednesday.
Diaz scored to give Cost Rica, which has won six straight overall in qualifying, the only goal it needed in the 16th minute and Nunez added another in two minutes into second-half injury time.
The victory improved the Ticos, which clinched its place in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying with its 4:1 win over Haiti on Saturday, to 15 points atop Group C, five better than second-placed El Salvador.
Haiti was formally eliminated with the loss. Costa Rica has outscored its opponents 17:2 in its five games, and still has a final qualifier on 19 November at El Salvador. Haiti closes out its qualifying schedule at Suriname.
